Railroad Tracks on Bethany Road

kgantzer writes "Question & Answers to/from City of Mason regarding the deteriorating and dangerous condition of the railroad tracks on Bethany Road.(start reading from bottom)
I am not sure. It really varies on whether they have other work in the area, their budget, severity, other priorities, etc. I would guess they will wait for warmer weather due to the asphalt needed to make the repairs. Asphalt plants typically open mid-April. As I mentioned there are several other track areas in poor condition that we need them to do as well. This is a low speed rail line just for freight delivery to businesses in Mason so they do not make it a high priority to make repairs. Hopefully they will at least come out and take a look and maybe put a temporary patch in until they can do some permanent repair. In September I personally showed Don Kuchey the issue on Church Street and they have not done anything yet. However, they have also undergone some changes in personnel, so I am somewhat optimistic. If I hear anything I will let you know.
Thanks again for contacting us.

Maintenance of track crossings are the property and responsibility of the railroad. I am forwarding your e-mail onto the Roadmaster at Indiana and Ohio Railway. Don Kuchey is responsible for this type of maintenance on the tracks. I also have asked him several months ago to perform some repairs on Church Street and also on Tylersville Road/US 42 intersection - eastbound lanes. I just entered the following e-mail into the contact page on the RailAmerica website:We have several crossing locations in the City of Mason that are in need ofrepair.Church Street - there are rotten ties and exposed rebar that could puncture a tire.Tylersville Road - the plates have settled and there are large pot holes in the eastbound lanes causing vehicles to go left of center to avoid them.Bethany Road - the uneven and protruding tracks are dangerous and a source of constant complaint from our residents. Thanks in advance for your help in getting these repaired in a timely manner

Crossing the railroad tracks on Bethany has become treacherous, as the pavement has sunk and the tracks themselves now protrude too much.
